Rev. Kim Smith became the pastor of First Baptist Church of Newfane on January 1, 2021. He is an ordained United Methodist pastor. He served for 32 years in the Methodist Church before retiring in 2019. He filled in at numerous churches in the area until he received a call from the Baptist Church. Pastor Kim before going into ministry was a farmer. He started working for Alan Wais at the age of 12 milking cows. He continued to work on the farm through high school. He later worked with Mr. Wais on the fruit farm, while cash cropping 400 areas on the side. When God called him into ministry Pastor Kim noted that "God allowed him to play in the dirt and then said, 'It is time for you do what I need you to do now". Pastor Kim still considers that he is still in the farming business. He said, "For many years I planted seeds into the ground for my own profit. I now plants seeds, into the hearts of people for God." We are all involved in the harvest. Scripture says, "The Harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." Pastor Kim is married to Bethany. He has three children from his first marriage, Jessica (Larry), Samuel (Lauren), and Jacob (Bethany). He has a fourth child, Storm, through his marriage with Bethany. Pastor Kim and Bethany have seven grandchildren between them: Lance, Payton, Connor, Kallan, Emily, Dilan, and Jaxson. Pastor Kim is happy to be at the Baptist Church and looks forward to serving there for many years. He doesn't preach denominational traditions. He preaches the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is our relationship with Christ that gives us salvation. |
